“SPOT” at FotoNoviembre festival, on LENS by the New York Times and official page
SPOT
is the newest series from the travel’AIR project by Mindaugas Kavaliauskas. The documentary work explores the realm of plane watching. The first and the core part of the travel’ AIR project was dealing with travelers, people in airports and airplanes. SPOT is about the people on the ground. It is those people who instead of watching football or going fishing, gather around airports and watch airplanes. The start of the project was promising encounters with people armed with telephoto lenses, but soon it became clear that those only make the tip of the iceberg. In the long run, a good dozen of reasons to watch planes showed up.
The progress of the series from 2015 lead Mindaugas Kavaliauskas to visit a number of airports in numerous countries, different continents. Among those are Lisabon (Portugal), Aucklands (New Zealand), Barcelona (Spain), Vilnius (Lithuania), Houston (Texas, USA, 2 airports), Warsaw (Poland), Berlin (Germany), Riga (Latvia), Geneva (Switzerland), Toulouse (France), Atlanta (Georgia, USA), Frankfurt (Germany), Paris (France, 3 airports), Copenhagen (Denmark), St. Maarten island.
